I am interested in the difference between absolute truth and the limits of human knowledge. All of my photographs are investigations into the transience of knowledge and how our understanding of events and ideas is always in transition. In my work stage magic, ritual magic, ghosts, monsters, and alchemy serve as metaphors for the separation between truth and knowledge. They are constructs to explain what we don’t understand. I am also interested in the act of art making as parallel to the act of constructing knowledge. By “light of hand,” I perform tricks by combining a variety of old and new photographic techniques to give the viewer a sense of the magic and mystery of images.
